Today is our final day with all the puppies and we are making the most of it. I am not going to dwell on each puppy leaving us over the next few days as that would be too hard to do. But I will here and now wish each and every one of them a happy life filled with fun, toys, walks, love and kindness. I hope that I will be able to keep up with them and meet some if not all of them on occasions. We have been truly blessed with this litter. They have filled our family's hearts with joy and given us reason to get up in the mornings. Fare thee well little ones! Also today I, yet again, want to mention the beautiful Shadow who has been through a lot over the last few months but has done us proud and has been a wonderful mum, who still to this day is nursing her puppies once a day at least. Her journey started when she had to endure an awfully long car ride to Auckland to meet her lover, only to endure the same car ride back again two days later. She was not impressed with that and at Taupo on the way home it was very hard to get her out of the lake and back into the car! She had a relatively smooth pregnancy followed by a nightmare whelping. But then she turned out to be a wonderful mum to her puppies - feeding them, cleaning them, protecting them and playing with them. Today she put her scent on the blankets that are going home with the puppies so that they will have something familiar in their new homes. She will feed them all as a group for the last time tomorrow morning. I can't thank Shadow enough for what she has done, for giving us these puppies and our new Sherry who will become part of our lives and I am so very glad that all turned out well for her as there is always a risk when you embark upon a journey like this.
